Privacy policy
This policy explains what information Frontenac Labs, a sole proprietorship owned by Tony Bassi, collects through frontenaclabs.ca, why we collect it, where it is kept and what you can ask us to do with it. We follow the principles of Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Where Quebec's private-sector privacy law (Law 25) applies to you, we aim to meet it as well.
Who is responsible
Our privacy officer is Tony Bassi. You can reach him at hello@frontenaclabs.ca about anything in this policy, including access and correction requests.
What we collect
Project contact form (home page)
Your name, work email, organisation, the kind of data you need, rough volume, timeline and whatever you write in the details box. We also record the date and the language the page was shown in.
Data check (/check)
- Company details you enter or confirm: website domain, company name, industry, headquarters region, employee count, years of records, main language of records, the tools you use, and whether your core data is personal, health, legal, payment-card, children's or otherwise restricted data.
- The estimate we calculate from those answers, and which fields were pre-filled for you.
- If you request a review: your name, work email, role, and your confirmation that you are authorised (or will get approval) to discuss licensing your company's data.
The company details and estimate are only sent to us if you press "Request review". Before that, they stay in your browser.
Automatic company lookup
When you enter a domain on the Data check, our server visits that company's public website (the home page and a few pages such as "About" or "Contact") and sends the text to Anthropic, an AI provider, to suggest a first draft of the company details. We do not send your name or email for this, and we do not keep the website text after the lookup.
Technical information
- Our hosting provider receives your IP address and basic request details (browser type, page requested) with every request, and keeps platform logs for a short period. We use IP addresses briefly to limit abuse of our forms and do not store them with your request.
- Our own server logs record the date, the company domain and whether a request was saved. They do not record names or email addresses.
- The site stores your colour-theme and language choice in your browser (local storage). We do not use advertising cookies, analytics or tracking pixels.
- Fonts are served from our own site, so no font provider receives your IP address.
Why we use it
- To reply to you and discuss a project or a data-licensing review.
- For the Data check: to see whether your company may fit what AI data buyers look for, and, only after an authorised person at your company agrees in writing to a referral, to confirm with a buyer that your company is not already in its pipeline. That check shares your company name and domain with the buyer. We do not share your contact details with a buyer without your agreement.
- To keep the site secure and working.
We do not sell personal information and do not use it for advertising. By sending a form you consent to these uses. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us; we will then stop using and delete your information unless the law requires us to keep it.
Independent referrer and referral fees
For the Data check, Frontenac Labs acts as an independent referrer. We do not act for, or speak on behalf of, any data buyer. If your company licenses data to a buyer we introduce, that buyer may pay us a referral fee. You pay us nothing, and we do not share any part of that fee with you or your company. We cannot promise that a buyer will accept your company or what any buyer would pay.
Where your information is stored
We do not currently host this site or your information in Canada.
- Vercel Inc. hosts the site and runs our forms. The servers that handle form submissions are in Washington, D.C., in the United States (region iad1). Page files are served from Vercel's global network, so they may be delivered from a data centre near you.
- Form submissions are stored as private files in Vercel Blob storage, also in the United States (iad1). Only Frontenac Labs can open them.
- Anthropic PBC (United States) processes the public website text for the automatic lookup, as described above.
Information stored or processed outside Canada is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessible to its courts and authorities. If you are in Quebec, this means your information is communicated outside Quebec. We will assess whether these providers protect it adequately.
How long we keep it
We keep project enquiries and Data check requests for 24 months after our last contact with you, then delete them. If you become a client or your company licenses data through a buyer we introduced, we keep what we need for the length of that relationship and as required for tax and accounting records.
How we protect it
Submissions are stored in private storage that requires our account login. Access is limited to the people at Frontenac Labs who need it to respond to you. Connections to the site are encrypted (HTTPS).
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email hello@frontenaclabs.ca. We will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information.
Children
This site is meant for businesses and is not directed at children.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted on this page.
